Tragedy Overpowering Gore

I follow a website called Listverse that posts top 10 or 15 or just general countdowns of different things. All kinds of things. Some are "Top 10 Oldest People Ever" or "10 Possible Resting Places for the Holy Grail." Overall, it's an amazing place to waste time on the internet considering their HUGE archive of lists on all kinds of topics and frequent updates.

As a film student, I thoroughly enjoy their lists relating to film and I try to read all of them as I find them. Recently I came across "10 More Extremely Disturbing Films," a follow up to "Top 15 Most Disturbing Films." On this list I found a clip from a short feature called "Cutting Moments" directed by Douglas Buck. The film tells of a suburban housewife who's husband pays her no attention and his sexual urges are now leaning toward their son.

This scene as featured on Listverse is rather gory, so don't watch it if you've got an easily upset stomach. Don't listen to it either. That's probably the worst part. But despite all the, I find the end of the clip so unbelievably tragic it made me want to cry. It's as if she's standing in front of him begging her to look at her and to finally see her. And what he does see is the degradation of her sense of self. It's so desperate and vulnerable that it completely overshadows the gore in my opinion.

Watch the clip: NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH!!
